Private Lessons for Single Plane Swing

A Brief Overview of the Single Plane Swing

The Grip

In Single Plane golf, the proper grip is essential to the swing accuracy. Notice there is no interlocking of fingers from one hand to the other.  The club is placed on a diagonal across the palms of the hands similar to the way a hammer handle is held.

The Set-up

The Single Plane golf swing is designed to be completed in a “Straight Line” or “Pendulum-like” action unlike the numerous planes used in the conventional swing.  This straight line swing very much emulates the mechanical robots used in testing clubs and balls for accuracy and distance.  Notice how the club shaft forms a direct line extension with the arms all the way up to the shoulders.  Notice the wide foot stance to keep the waist quiet.

The Backswing

At the top of the backswing, the club will not be as high in order to maintain the grip hand position, keep the head down and the leading arm straight.  The right elbow should remain close to the body at the apex of the backswing.  The hips are “cocked” slightly rearward, but remain square with the ball and feet remain quiet.  The ball is played in line with the back edge of the leading foot.

At Impact

Notice the arms, wrists, and hands are all in the same position as they were at set-up.  The head remains behind the ball and faces the ball at impact.  The hips are released as the forward knee bends slightly.  Notice the rear shoulder is slightly lower at the time the club strikes the ball, which releases the power for better distance.  Feet remain firmly planted.

The Finish

After impact, the body is allowed to rotate slightly to follow the path of the ball.  The club follow-thru arc is in the intended direction of the ball’s flight path.  The back heel is allowed to leave the ground.
